Proof that it’s NEVER too late!

Live your BEST years yet …

What would give you the motivation to overcome any setback that has come your way? Are you over 50 and feel that you’ve already lived your best years and now it’s all downhill?

It’s NEVER too late to begin to take some risks and begin living “Functionally Fit” full speed ahead. Take it from Donna …

Donna Vano is the queen of extreme — a pioneer in snowboarding, skateboarding, surfing and skiing. At the age of 65, she is an action sports legend, a two-time cancer survivor and a grandmother.

She has held three Guinness World Records; she’s the oldest inline vert skater in the world; she holds the most gold medals in U.S. Snowboarding Association history, in all five disciplines; and she’s the oldest female amateur snowboarder competing in pro tours in the Super Pipe.

Not bad for someone who didn’t even take up snowboarding until she was 41 years old. “I’m proof that it’s never too late,” she says. “Nobody thought it was a good idea but me, and I’m so glad I did!”

Snowboarding seemed to come naturally to her, perhaps because of all the years she’s spent on a skateboard. Donna says she was skateboarding even before boards were invented. She used to make her own boards using roller skate wheels.

She was also a pioneer for women in the sports of surfing and blading. That comes with a lot of pride, she says, but also a lot of injuries. She’s had to overcome eight broken arms, a torn ACL, a shoulder injury and she has three metal rods holding her tibia to her fibula.

Donna says the sheer joy of competing is what gives her the motivation to overcome any setback in her way.  She also thinks it may have had another benefit, one that could have saved her life. “When I was diagnosed with two bouts of ovarian cancer,” she explains, “I already had the mentality that I can fight back from this.”

Donna is a force of life. She designs hand-crocheted beanies with a percentage of all profits going to cancer research. She also hangs with some of the biggest extreme sports stars on Earth, including Tony Hawk and Shaun White.
