Her Path to Inner Peace

Dana Falsetti was terribly unhappy. She thought losing weight would change that, so she tried everything from fad diets to fat camps. She lost some weight but not her depression and anxiety.

“I was convinced that if I just got smaller everything would get better, but it didn’t.”

Despite losing 70 pounds, she only felt worse. “I hated myself at that point,” she admits.

“I was confused and stagnant and ready to try anything.”

It just so happened that there was a yoga studio near her home offering unlimited classes, so with no expectations, she signed up.

“Those first few classes really sucked,” she remembers.

“I was super intimidated and surprised by how hard it was.”

She wanted to quit, but something inside kept pulling her back.

“At first I just wanted to prove to everyone that I was the fat girl who could do a headstand.”

Over time her attitude started to change and so did her body. She began to look forward to each class, not to prove anything, but because she was starting to feel different, physically and mentally.

“It was the first time I had ever done anything completely for me without worrying about how I looked to anyone else.”

She had always blamed her unhappiness on her body, but realized the problem was in her mind.

“It was so obvious. Without a sense of self worth nothing I did was ever going to change. Yoga allowed me to slowly develop it.”

Soon, she would wake up each day anxious to go to class.

“For the first time in my life I believed I was worth the thirty minutes on the mat because it was the best thing I could do for me.”

Dana shared her progress on social media and found an audience. Now, she is a plus-size yogi, a magazine cover girl, a social media star and a great inspiration to many across the world.
